Petra van Esch

Petra van Esch caught the horse bug at three and won her first Brabant provincial championship at eight. As a junior she rode dressage, show jumping and eventing. From 1997 to 2000 she trained in Germany, then committed to dressage for good and, together with her parents Hendrik and Paulien, founded Dressuurstal Petra van Esch in Gemonde, just outside 's-Hertogenbosch, the city that hosts the KWPN Stallion Show and The Dutch Masters every year.

Early on, she competed the mare Nelinora through Prix St. Georges and Intermediate I. Out of Nelinora, the family bred the full brothers Fido Dido, Fiji and Fifty Fifty, all three of which Petra trained herself and competed internationally. To date she has brought seven horses to Grand Prix.

Petra shows often in Germany and Switzerland, and what she cares about most is a correct, technically sound education for the horse. Alongside the family's own horses, she trains horses for owners and teaches lessons and clinics.

“I was able to turn my hobby into my profession. The best part is being able to pass on everything I've learned over the years to others.”
